Telford Town Park and Randlay Urban Event

OrganiserDave Deakin (WRE)
PlannerClive Richardson (WRE)
ControllerKerstin Mitchell (HOC)

Start Times: 12.00-15.00

This event will be an Urban event using Telford Town Park and the adjacent, previously unused, residential area of Randlay to the East of the park.

Award winning mapper, Rod Postlethwaite, has prepared a new map to include both the areas.

The new map is drawn at 1:5000 to an Urban/Sprint specification.

The Junior courses, up to M/W 16, will be kept within the Town Park.

The event will be based at the club house of the Telford Hornets Rugby Club within the Town Park.

Parking will be available at the Rugby Club. Contingency will be using Public Car parks should it be needed ( see Information below ).

Telford Town Park is a large urban park in the centre of Telford and is easily accessible from all directions. In 2018 it was used for the West Midlands Orienteering Championships. Although close to the centre of Telford, there is a wide variety of terrain within the park area, much of it the result of regeneration that has taken place following a long history of industrial activity.

For more information on the Town Park see the website www.telfordtownpark.co.uk

Car Parking

As shown in the Day 1 details, we have secured the Telford Hornets Rugby club as our Event centre. They have 110 hard standing parking places and a large grassed area which thanks to recent weather is fully available for our use.

In the now unlikely event of very heavy rain the Contingency is for competitors arriving later to use Public Car Parks. Information regarding the parking available and charges is set out below.

Parking Contingency

On the opposite side of the road from the rugby club is the Dark Lane Car Park run by Telford & Wrekin Council, which has 160 hard standing spaces. There will be spaces available here, but it is a Bank holiday weekend and it will also be used by Town Park and Exotic Zoo visitors. I have reserved 2 coach spaces in the event that anyone attending the event has a large motorhome which will not be suitable for the rugby club parking. *Please notify me in advance if you intend to come with one of these.

Unfortunately anyone parking in any public car park will incur costs which are payable on the day.

The charges for cars in Dark lane are:

£3 for up to 2 hours , £4 up to 3 hours , and £5 for over 3 hours . Coach charge is £12.50

Payment is only available electronically by what they call “Pay and go” – This simply means that you ‘pay and go’, via a text message, telephone, smartphone app or online.

Telford Town Centre Car Parks are no more than a 15 minute walk to the Event Centre

The Open Air Long Stay Car Parks have no height restrictions. Motorhomes and Campervans will need to use these. There are no dedicated parking spaces, however all the car parks within Telford and Wrekin can be used by motorhome owners,  though if a vehicle takes up more than one parking bay then pay and display tickets must be purchased for each bay .

Charges for those Town Centre Car Parks (cash or card options available for payment on departure) are as follows:

£1.80 for up to 2 hours , £2.40 up to 3 hours , and £4.50 or £6.50 for over 3 hours dependent on whether it is a Short stay or a Long Stay  car park.
