SINS 2021

Welcome to the 2021 website.

Update Dated 28th April

Day 1  Saturday 29th May on Corndon  now Cancelled

With the Covid 19 situation improving we had been hopeful that we would be able to hold orienteering events over the traditional SINS weekend of the late May Bank Holiday. Obviously this would be subject to the restrictions / guidance in place at the time.

Planning was proceeding on the following basis.

The plan was to hold 2 events rather than the normal 3. Both the events would be traditional long distance events.

Saturday 29th May would be on Corndon Hill with Sunday 30th May on the adjacent Stapeley / Rorrington.

These are located 5 miles North of Bishops Castle.

Car parking would be in the same field for both days.

A potential problem was that the England / Wales border bisected the area with Corndon and the car parking field in Wales and Stapeley / Rorrington in England. So both the English and Welsh Covid restrictions will have to permit the events for them to proceed.

The Welsh Government further relaxed their Covid restrictions last week. However whilst adult orienteering can recommence it is limited to only 30 participants.

The next likely date for changes to restrictions is 17th May when they have indicated that the number of participants may be increased to 50.

With the permitted number of participants being so low we have taken the disappointing decision to cancel Day 1 on Corndon.

Day 2 Sunday 30th May on Stapeley/Rorrington to Go Ahead

We have agreed with the farmer to use a different one of his fields for car parking, which is partly in England, and therefore we have decided that Stapeley can go ahead.

As previously indicated, due to Covid restrictions and commitments to the local landowners we will be limiting the number of entrants to 350.

Entry will be via Fabian4.

As planned, the Midland Area Long Distance Championships will be incorporated into the event on Stapeley/Rorrington.

The Midlands Championships are only open to members of the clubs within the WMOA, EMOA and EAOA and therefore Fabian4 will initially give preference to members of these clubs.

The intention now is for entries to open on Fabian4 on or about 30th April but will be restricted on the system to members of the clubs in the 3 Orienteering Associations listed above. Subject to the limit on the number of entrants not having been reached, entries to the event will then be open to BOF members of any club from Monday 10th May.

We will continue to update this website as further details are finalised and or Covid restrictions eased.
