SINS 2023

Welcome

Welcome to the SINS 2023 website.

After the disappointment of SINS 2021 having to be reduced to a single one day event, plans are well advanced for SINS 2023 with a return to its 3 day format over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, 27th – 29th May.

In order to provide a variety of Orienteering challenges Day 1 will be an Urban event, Day 2 a traditional Long Distance event and Day 3 a Middle Distance event as follows:

Day 1  Saturday27th MayTelford Town Park/RandlayUrban
Day 2  Sunday28th MayBrampton Bryan
Incorporating the Midlands Area Championships
(UKOL) Long
Day 3 Monday29th MayCorndon Hill(UKOL) Middle Distance

Telford Town Park consists of a variety of terrain and in 2018 was used for the West Midlands Championships. For SINS 2023 the map has been updated by award winning mapper Rod Postlethwaite to include the previously unused residential area of Randlay on the east side to enable an Urban event to be held.

Brampton Bryan is situated 7 miles west of Ludlow on the A4113 and was last used for SINS in 2017. It is an enjoyable mixture of open parkland, rough open areas and mixed but generally runnable woodland. This event will incorporate the Midlands Area Long Distance Championships and we have also been asked if it can be used as a Selection Event for the England Junior Team taking part in the Ward Junior Home Internationals in 2023.

Corndon Hill is a familiar landmark on the England Wales border, 4 miles north of Bishops Castle and was last used for SINS in 2015. It is just over 500metres high and consists of open grassy fields, slopes, crags, an abundance of rocks, some heather, marsh and open mineral workings. Runnability is mostly fast. The terrain has been re-mapped by Peel Land Surveys.

The events at Brampton Bryan and Corndon will form parts of the UK Orienteering League.

As usual, putting on the family friendly SINS event is a team effort with many people already engaged in the preparations for what we believe will be another enjoyable event.

Event details and available courses and classes may be found on the Event Details page.

Further information will be added to the website over the next few weeks.
