Formal Permission from Natural Resources Wales now received
Welcome to the SINS 2017 website.
After developing and coordinating the SINS events for a number of years both Eric Brown and Richard Lewis have decided to relinquish their roles as the coordinators for SINS.
We feel sure that you will all join us in thanking Eric and Richard for all their hard work on SINS over the last few years.
Steve Bramwell (HOC) and Andy Clough(WRE) have now taken on the roles of joint coordinators going forward.
A number of the wooded areas used at previous SINS are no longer available to us in May due to the landowners’ apparent change of policy on enhanced environmental protection grounds.
In 2017 Day 1 will be on the Long Mynd (just West of Church Stretton) which has been used for orienteering events previously but not for SINS.
Day 2 Following the loss of the planned venue at Caradoc and Hope Bowdler when two of the Farmers withdrew their previously granted permissions we reviewed alternative locations within the HOC and WRE areas but none were practical at short notice so we widened our search.
Following discussions with Mid Wales OC we are planning to use Nash Woods near Presteigne. This venue was used in February for an event run jointly by MWOC and WRE and is only 8 miles from Brampton Bryan.
Following an initial approach to the land owners (Natural Resources Wales) the required paperwork was submitted to them in mid March and formal permission has now been received. The use of a field for parking has also been agreed with a local farmer.
The third day will use the mixed terrain at Brampton Bryan.
Day 2 and Day 3 will form part of the 2017 UK Orienteering League.
As ever putting on the family friendly SINS event is a team effort with many people already engaged in the preparations for what we believe will be another enjoyable event.
Please watch this space for further details which will be added to the website over the next few weeks.
